Full Description

{1} A well preserved stone building and associated tenement boundary walls. The walls of the building survived to at least five courses above the level of the surrounding metalled yard. The site was backfilled without excavation of features but finds from surface cleaning indicate a date range from the 12th to the 15th centuries.

{2} A substantial building with a walled yard lies south of the junction of the Cotton Lane and Raunds Brook. The function of the building is not certain, but a possible interpretation is that of a medieval watermill.

{3} A substantial building with a walled yard to the rear was found to the south of the junction of Cotton Lane with the Raunds Brook. Its function is unknown, but given its location, it may have been a medieval watermill. This could provide a context for the early C15th documentary references to a mill at West Cotton.
