Full Description
{3} The date of the enclosure of the common fields of Stutchbury is unknown, but had taken place before the middle of the 16th century when sheep were being grazed within large closes there. It Is likely that enclosure took place after 1377 as the village had not been depopulated by that date. Ridge anfd furrow of these fields exists on the ground or can be traced on air photos over much of the area of land which is attributable to Stutchbury, arranged mainly in rectangular interlocking furlongs. However, modern cultivation has removed much of the generally slight remains except in the clay-floored valley in the south.
