Monument record 9921/0/7 - Open Fields Project: Areas of Survival of Ridge & Furrow

Earthworks of medieval/post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation identified on aerial photographs during the Open Fields Project.

{3} Most of the ridge and furrow in the parish is arranged mainly in end-on furlongs running generally east-west across the parish. This is at least in part the result of the adaptation of the ridges to the contours, although the long runs of end-on furlongs in the centre of the parish (around SP525425) cannot be entirely attributed to this. Especially notable in this area are two adjacent furlongs with ridges of unusual width. No explanation can be proposed for these ridge almost 20m wide.
