Full Description
{1} The mill was fed from a pond which was supplied from springs on the east; the tail water ran into the River Nene. A watercourse found in the 1970s was concluded to be part of the former watermill. Shown on Samuel and nathaniel Buck's 1731 South West Prospect of Northampton as Clack Mill; not shown on Eyre and Jeffreys' 1791 map; named Round Mill on Bryant's 1827 map; shown, un-named, on Law's 1847 map of Northampton. Believed to have been built between 1560 and 1580. Demolished in 1970 when grounds were sold to Northamptonshire Health Authority.
{2} SP 762601. Reference in 1783 to Paper Mill here worked either by wind or water or by both jointly. In 1788 referred to as a wind and water corn-mill, 'called by the name of Clack Mill'. Windmill not mentioned in sale of water corn-mill in 1827 but is mentioned as 'a circular building' in the sale of Vigo Cottage in 1848. Vigo windmill is believed to have been used for pumping for the town's water supply. Stump remains.
