Full Description
{1} A large Roman villa/ farm, possibly 10acres overall. This could have been a later farm (2nd/ 3rd century). Unfortunately the land has now been double ploughed and little remains of surface stone as most has been decimated.
Pottery finds in the area were: part of a wide mouthed bowl with heavy flange, high gloss internal, mica slip 2nd century (2 pieces). Rim sherd from bowl, London ware, early imitation of terra negra (2nd century matt black coat caused by reduced firing), beaker or cup fragment, orange fabric, brown decoration, possibly Gaulish, many more including 3 more pieces from central and southern Gaul, mica ware from the 2nd century and a rim sherd, Spanish coated, late 2nd- early 3rd century.
There is a track which may have led to other Roman farms towards Cropedy, Middleton Cheney and Thenford, alongside the New Jurassic Way.
