Full Description
{1} Building 1 (SP 99583 78618) is a red brick single storey structure with a slate roof. The north wall of the building is constructed of brick. There is evidence for a chimney and fireplace on this wall. On the east face of the building are two doorways and a window - all of very simple construction. The west wall is of mixed stone and brick construction with a single blocked window. Very simple roof structure comprising rafters and purlins. It was not possible to determine what the building was originally used for; although it is clearly an outbuilding of low status.
Building 2 (SP 99594 78627) is a linear structure attached to an additional outbuilding immediately to the rear of 34 High Street. The building is constructed of stone on the south and east sides and brick on the north and west sides. The building is of two storey construction. All openings, including 4 large windows to the upper floor and a wooden door and two windows on the ground floor, are on the west face of the building. There is one blocked window on the east wall of the building. There is a chimney at the north end of the structure. The ground floor has been divided into two with the northern end now utilised as a kitchen for 34 High Street and the southern end used as storage space. The upper floor is currently open all the way along and has a wooden floor. The owner of the building found various artefacts including clay pipes, marbles and wooden toys to the north end of the building. There is a reed and plaster ceiling beneath wooden boards. It was not possible to access the attic space of the building. It was not possible to determine the original or subsequent use of the building, but the plaster ceiling may indicate a possible domestic use at some time.
