Full Description

{1}Wellingborough Leather Dressers (originally Sheltons) on Irchester Road has been recently recorded by Jenny Ballinger for the SMR prior to its possible destruction. It is a large three storey redbrick factory typical of its period.

{2} Shelton Factory in Wollaston; formerly G.W & R Shelton closed 28th January 2000.
The factory developed on a complex between Irchester Road, Park Street and Eastfield Road over a long period of time. The first phase of the works was a red brick building of three storeys and 8 bays (with two windows in each bay) with a frontage along Irchester Road. The building has crittal windows all the way along the frontage, a door to either end of the building and a taking in door / access area in the second bay from the east of the building.
The second phase of the building, which was erected prior to 1900, was constructed at right angles to the original building. The structure was of two-storey construction with four bays, the frontage of this phase is along Park Street. There are large crittal windows on the ground floor, but replacement windows on the first floor. There is a small two storey modem extension to this building.
The third phase of the works was erected on the same alignment as the two storey building and comprised a series of six single storey, red brick sheds with north lights. A modem extension has been added along the Park Street frontage to this building.
There are a series of late 20th century additions to the building which it was not possible to get access to from the street frontage. This included a large water tower for the fire sprinkling system for the factory.
In addition to the main factory buildings, there is a small two storey red brick structure on the same alignment as the original building. This building is not currently in the same ownership as the remainder of the works. The building is shown the Ordnance Survey map of 1900 as being in the same plot as the rest of the works. The first floor retains its original windows and would appear to have been used as a workshop area of some kind, the ground floor has a series of blocked arches including a possible carriage arch.
Shown on Ordnance Survey map of 1900.
