Full Description

{1} A curvilinear gully cut the geology at the south-eastern end of the trench and terminated at its centre. It was 0.30m wide, only 0.10m deep and had a shallow u-shaped profile. Its fill contained sherds of late 1st- to mid-2nd century pottery. The fill was also flecked with dispersed fragments of burned clay. This gully could conceivably be the remnants of a round house.

{2} Trial excavation on land surrounding the important Bronze Age ringwork revealed widely dispersed archaeological features including parts of three possible roundhouses.

{4} Excavation in 2017 revealed an enclosure defined by ditches on all sides except the east. Possible entrances were identified and a post hole positioned in the southern entrance could be related to an entrance structure such as a gate. The interior of the enclosure contained two possible post-built structures, short ditch lengths, and clusters of pits and postholes. The majority of the evidence for activity was situated in the northern half of the enclosure with only the two post-built structures in the southern part. In addition, six unurned cremation burials were located in the northern part of the enclosure and is in close proximity to an area that has been deemed to be a cremation cemetery. The dating of the activity is Middle Bronze Age/Early Iron Age.
