Full Description

{1} Constructed of hammer dressed coursed limestone with well-constructed quoins of ferruginous stone, a form of construction unlikely after 1900. At the junction of Moat Lane the building has a well-constructed angled corner which was designed to avoid damage from carts. There is a blocked doorway along Bakers Lane and a curious vertical joint ascending approximately 1m from ground level on the Moat Lane frontage. The building is mentioned as 'The Old School and warehouse' in the 1855 rating assessment map for the town. The lack of schoolmaster's accommodation suggests that it had occasional use, possibly as a Sunday school. In 1910 building appears to have been a stable and coach house. The most recent use of building was as a public toilet block, although this is now also closed.
