Full Description

{2} Poole describes the Roman bricks used in Brixworth church as being "supplied by an encampment which stood within three hundred yards of the church, to the north west."
Pavey attributes the source of the bricks to a site of Roman occupation two fields to the north of the church but it is not certain that he is referring to the villa site. George describes a Saxon cemetery a quarter of a mile north west of the church which might mean the cemetery was associated with a Roman site. It is quite likely that authors would attribute the source of the bricks to the Roman site identified in their day.
Site visit to the area described by Poole identified no features but the area had been quarried to a depth of over 2m which makes it likely that all traces of the Roman settlement have been removed.

{5} A Roman well was discovered in Brixworth.
