Full Description

{1} Bricked up tunnel entrance. Former entrance to tunnel leading to Irthlingborough mines. Opened in 1939 and continued in use to 1945. Ore was taken by rail through the tunnel. Latter lies at base of a steep sided very deep gullet, largely formed by an earlier phase of 20th century quarrying and utilised to provide an access by the tunnel builders in 1939. Entrance not inspected but reportedly still survives.
