Full Description

{1} A little later a brickworks was also erected on this site as a sideline … the brickwork pits, small and insignificant as they were in themselves, played a not unimportant part in influencing the course of ironstone quarrying history. The pits were closed in 1912. The crescent-shaped cutting, thickly overgrown and spanned by a narrow brick arch, lasted until about 1960, but has since been completely obliterated by the factories of the trading estate; only the brick 'hole' remains, now filled with water.

{2} As in Cogenhoe the brickworks here was started to use clay dug during the extraction of iron ore. James Pain opened the workings in 1886 and a little later built the brickworks. Although it was a very extensive works it only survived until 1910 when production of the ore was concentrated on. These iron ore pits however lasted only until 1912. The brickworks operated under the title of Weldon & Corby Patent Brick Co Ltd.

{3} Extensive brickworks operated under the title of The Weldon & Corby Patent Brick Company Ltd. They stopped work in 1912.
