Full Description

{2} T. Welsh describes a low spread bank, greatly reduced by ploughing, about 20m broad. The enclosed space is oval, at least 16m north-south by 13, the spread being very gradual. There appears to have been a wide ditch on the south and west, and possibly an annexe to the north in the angle of two gullies. He suggests that the earthwork bank represents the early Norman manorial site for Brixworth. Poyncill Way on the east of the site extends north towards Brixworth church and could have been the medieval axis of the village. The early foundation and possible associated ground of the church might have precluded the manor being associated nearby.
