Full Description

{1} A number of small former BT buildings which may be part of the 1950’s hardened ‘survivable’ trunk cable linking the deep underground exchanges in London, Birmingham and Manchester. Through a broken window in the Towcester building I could see that the building was empty, but had an open hatch in the floor with a sign reading ‘warning replace duct seal after cabling’.
The buildings are roughly 2.5 miles (4km) apart, except where they are replaced by an exchange, as at Pattishall, Daventry and possibly Dunchurch. They run up the A5 to Weedon before heading west on the A45. On the east side of Birmingham the cable heads this way from the PR1 repeater bunker at Lyndon Green, again on the A45.”
AA has identified 4 structures in Northants with 3 others out of county, all on the A45.
