Full Description

{1} The area which is now Nos. 7 and 9 Chapel Lane (and perhaps No. 11) was identified as "Little Ease" in 1824 in an application to build the baptist meeting house adjacent. The name implies a small chamber used for punishment which is to small to site, stand or lie in; a chamber offering "little ease". Often these were placed underground. It is possible that an underground chamber fashioned in stone still exists somewhere on this site.
