Full Description

{1} Joyce and Arthur Chapman of Manor Farm, Naseby recall uses of building during wartime years. In 1941, for two weeks airmen from Nottingham were stationed at the camp before being sent on airforce training. This was discovered to be too much of a luxury and the large number of airmen which had been promised (and for whom a marquee had been erected in addition to the huts) never materialised. Possibly in 1942, for a short period male Irish farm hands stayed at the camp to make up the shortfall. The camp was then used continuously by the Women's Land Army until the end of the war. There is a series of plans of the former Women's Land Army Camp showing a combination of original layout and the existing arrangment. Two single storey accommodation huts of brick with corrugated asbestos roof. Also one shower block with a water tower of similar construction. The two accommodation huts were altered to form individual dwellings after the war. The shower or ablutions block is still largely unaltered along with many original fixtures and fittings.
