Full Description

{1} Ridge and furrow ploughing activity was detected over most of the application site during the geophysical survey.

{2} Post medieval furrows were seen in trenches 2-8, 11, 19 and 20.
A furrow was excavted in trench 11 and was found to be linear in plan, 1.94 x 1.72 x 0.35m, and orientated north-east to south-east.
Two furrows were excavated in trench 13: Both were linear in plan, measured approx 2.10 x 1.5 x 0.2m and were orientated north to south, with gently sloping sides and a concave base. One contained residual late 1st –early 2nd century pottery and the other post-medieval pottery.
Two post medieval furrows were excavated in trench 18: Both were linear in plan, measured approx 2.00 x 1.1 x 0.2m and were orientated north to south and north west to south east. Both had gently sloping sides and a concave base. One contained post-medieval pottery and the other a fragment of slag.
