Full Description
{1} In Dulce Road, Castle Buch and Castle Ave “stand some nice groups of BL8 Aluminium prefabs. All of the buildings in Dulce Road have been re-clad but an aluminium clad example remains at No.4 castle Bush (SP7215 6181); even the re-clad examples retain their prefab outbuildings. There are also a pair of concrete Airey houses standing at the junction of Eastfield Rd and Northfield Rd” (very approx SP7198 6193) “which were part of the temporary housing programme provision.”
{3} The BL8 aluminium bungalows were designed as permanent versions of the temporary AIROH (Aircraft Industries Research Organisation for Housing) prefabs. BL8s were produced for the Temporary Housing Programme by the Bristol Aircraft Company, and were produced until 1953 when the Cold War needed more aircraft.
