Full Description
{1} The popularity of the races also attracted rogues and vagabonds, thimbleriggers, card sharps, and pickpockets, as well as the usual crop of drunks and brawlers thanks to the many drinking booths set up round about. To this end a police station and holding cells were established close by the grandstand, next to the Kettering Road. Offenders who were arrested during the meetings were held there until evening when they were marched down the road to the main town H.Q. by a posse of policemen. It was finally demolished in March 1935.
[HER note 16/05/2014: 'Police Office' still marked on modern OS maps.]
