Full Description

{1} Plan of Short Wood, Glapthorn and Southwick shows earthworks surviving in 1972. Series of banks and ditches. Remaining woodland incorporates Short wood, Cockshoot Close, Hall Wood, Dodhouse Wood - names taken from Paxton's survey of 1635. Two parts of Dodhouse Wood cleared between 1635 and 1817. Earthworks of ridge and furrow within Dodhouse Wood and a series of ditches, banks, boundaries within Short Wood, survived in 1972.

{3} Short Wood indicated on Petitt's map of "Rockingham Forest in the seventeenth century" as "private or purlieu woods".
