Summary

Land purchased in 1897 from the Althorp Estate was opened as Victoria Park in 1898 to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.

Full Description

{1} Presumably opened to celebrate Victoria's reign, possibly her jubilee.

{2} Opened in 1898.

{3} 1897 purchased from the Spencer Estate (Althorp) for Queen Victoria's Jubilee.

{4} Various undated earthworks have been identified within the park. Prominent banks and possible building platforms definable within park; the banks are mostly short lengths to west of bowling green & associated with possible platforms; another running north-south to south of bowling green may represent modern pipeline. Also circular/oval enclosures lying to west of bowling green; series of embanked conjoined rectilinear enclosures overlain by embanked square enclosure to south of bowling green;

{5} No earthworks visible on LIDAR data other than those resulting from associated park features.
