Summary

St John's hospital near Weston Favell was opened with money from the compulsory purchase of the medieval hospital site in the 1800s to build St John's Railway Station. (Some of the medieval hospital buildings still stand at the bottom of Bridge Street.) Originally a convalescent hospital, it was used in the First World War as a home for wounded soldiers and again in the Second World War as a maternity hospital. It became an old people's home in 1958.

Full Description

{1} A successor to the St.John's hospital at the bottom of Bridge Street, Northampton, it was opened with money from the compulsory purchase of the original hospital site for the St. John's Railway Station in the 1800s. Originally a convalescent hospital, it was used in WWI as a home for wounded soldiers and in WWII as a maternity hospital. It became an old people's home from 1958.
