Full Description
{1} RAF Greatworth wireless transmission station set up during 1940's as a temporary communications station. Site of 120 acres was taken over in 1940's - the farmer at that time was told to leave the land (and was only allowed back at a later date to harvest crops).Majority of site given over to aerial masts. Airmen originally lived in huts until buildings were erected at a later date.Wireless transmission station closed down in late 1980's and became derelict. Sold in 1993 and buildings converted for "light industrial use".
{2} Brief site visit. The site is now called Greatworth Park, a light industrial/commercial estate. The two main building blocks have been refurbished/extended for commercial use. The concrete bases of the former masts survive in the intervening area of rough grass. The wider area of the complex was not investigated.
{3} Undated aerial photo showing the former 8 aerial mast bases.
