Summary

Post Medieval pottery kiln, part of the Potterspury pottery industry, was noted at Paulerspury. The kiln was first identified during fieldwalking when a scatter of pottery with wasters and fired clay was recorded to the north of the village. Excavations located the remains of the kiln comprising a oval-shaped platform measuring 2.13 metres by 4.13 metres, constructed of clay and tile. The kiln was used for the firing of both coarsewares and finewares. Coarsewares included bowls, panchions and jugs; finewares included bowls. Most of the vessels were glazed or were decorated with slips. Production took place during the 17th century, probably the mid 17th century.
