Full Description

{1} In Yardley Gobion was formerly a chapel dedicated to St Leonard. The remains of the chapel were a public house in 1791. A round arch formed its entrance. The brewhouse was probably in the chancel. In the south wall is part of a receptacle for holy water.

{2} On map of Yardley Gobion is an east-west aligned building with a round-arched doorway.

{3} The building on {2} is at approximately SP76534482, on the site of an inn marked on the OS 6" map.

{5} A church in Yardley Gobion was mentioned in Thomas le Despenser's conveyance in 1364. Yardley Gobion was a chapel to Potterspury and was probably served by the same priest. (N.B. The present church in Yardley Gobion is entirely of 1864.) By Bridge's time the chapel had fallen out of use: the nave had been converted into a public house and the chancel into a brew house.
