Full Description
{1}Pillow mound (?) (SP 90158152), lies immediately E. of Boughton House, on the S.W. side of a small valley, on limestone at 80m above OD. The remains lie on a long curving scarp, up to 2m high, which is a headland and positive lynchet formed the ploughing of the adjacent ridge and furrow to the S.W. At this point the existing ridge and furrow terminates short of the headland which is surmounted by a low rectangular flat-topped mound only 0.25m high. It appears that the mound has been constructad on the earlier headland, thus preventing the latter from being ploughed. The field in which the mound lies is called The Warren on a number of maps dating from between the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
{2} C17th & C18th sitename: The Warren.
