Please read our .

Summary

Nene Park was originally constructed on a piece of overgrown wasteland in 1969 after Irthlingborough Diamonds had spent its first 20-odd seasons on council pitches as a youth team. The ground quickly developed with long low stands capable of seating 350 either side of the pitch with room for another thousand under cover. Floodlights were installed in November 1978 and replaced in 1989. In 1992 Irthlingborough Diamonds amalgamated with Rushden Town with Nene Park chosen as the stadium to house the new team. This resulted in the complete re-building of the ground to meet Football League requirements. The original stands and changing rooms were demolished to be replaced in stages by firstly, twin single decker cantilever constructions, each curving to enclose the ground on all corners. A further triple decker stand was opened at the far end in January 1995, with the final part of the jigsaw complete in 1997. This modern ground was designed as part of the clubs masterplan in gaining Football League status which was achieved in 2001. Rushden and Diamonds went out of business in July 2011 and Nene Park is now occupied by Kettering Town Football Club.
