Full Description

{1} The bridge crosses a tributary to the River Ise, South of Burton Latimer, which at this point is a narrow stream, and forms part of a track way which ran next to the River Ise and appears to have led to Finedon Mill, also known as Burton Latimer, south watermill, destroyed by fire in 1936 and subsequently demolished. It is un-metalled, of single track width, of stone block construction, consisting of a single arch span, which reaches from bank to bank, with no piers. The original parapet does not survive, and the bridge where it crosses the stream is capped at road level with blue coping stones. It has 20th century wooden rails to either side which have been inserted into the stone work. Evidence provided shows that there is replacement and loss to these.

There is clear evidence of the parapet reaching around the banks and it is considered it was formerly a packhorse bridge servicing the mill, which is recorded from the mid 17th century. The bridge is indeterminate date due to some renewal of fabric and loss of the parapet, and currently forms part of a bridleway.

Unfortunately, although of local interest, the bridge adjacent to the River Ise at Finedon, has lost much of its original fabric. It is a simple single-arch structure of indeterminate date, with no notable features of architectural interest.
