Full Description

{1} The plots are dominated by broad areas of intense magnetic activity. Anomaly B, at the northern end of the survey area covers an area of approximately 25x15 m alongside the rampart. It is possible that at least some of the responses are a result of vitrified material from the rampart being spread across the site, however the character of the responses would suggest direct archaeological activity. It is possible that this was an area of inter-cutting pits and features. The intensity of the magnetic field may suggest industrial activity was also taking place within this area. Anomalies D and E have a similar character to that of Anomaly B and are probably of similar archaeological origins. Anomaly D is of particular interest. One leg of this “Y” shaped anomaly aligns with the southern side of the entrance way to the hillfort. It is possible that these represent a concentration of features such as pits along a roadway leading from the entrance. Anomaly E covers a relatively large area, but once again it has two linear extensions which may suggest possible roadways around the hillfort. Anomalies C and F are areas of consistently high positive responses of unknown origins.
