Full Description
{1} "….walking across fields to ironstone workings on Lord Cowper's estate and passing on the way what apparently was part of the foundation of some building; this it is thought may prove to be the site of a Roman villa…".
{2} The location of the villa was "…in an ironstone quarry to the south of the main road leading from Northampton to Weedon…".
{4} Furthermore, flue tiles, roof tile and T-clamps were amongst the materials recovered from the C19th quarrying implying the presence of at least one substantial building between the angle of the Weedon and Duston roads.
{5} In 1862 Sharp noted that with finds of black and white tesserae coming from the quarry there had undoubtedly been a Roman house on the site. Furthermore, flue tiles, roof tiles and T-clamps amongst the material recovered imply the presence of at least one substantial building between the angle of the Weedon and Duston roads.
