Full Description

{1} Medieval ridge and furrow, plough headlands and banks or baulks are visible as earthworks on historic and recent sources in the northern part of Drayton Park. Two substantial headlands run across this part of the park. One is visible from the demi-lune on the ha ha and runs north-north-eastward to beyond the park boundary. The other can be traced from the north-west corner of the kitchen gardens in a slightly meandering north-westerly direction to beyond the park boundary. The ridge and furrow referred to in this description lies between these two headlands and the park boundary. The ploughing is oriented southwest to north-east and north-west to south-east and there are lesser headlands and banks or baulks that may be associated with the ploughing. The Oak Avenue (AP no. 5) and several other post medieval linear features (AP nos 24, 25, 26 & 28) run across these features. The lidar data indicates that some of ridge and furrow and embanked feature survive as very low earthworks. (1-15)
