Full Description
{1} Medieval ridge and furrow and banks or baulks are visible as earthworks, cropmarks and soilmarks on historic and recent sources in the north-eastern part of Drayton Park. These plough furrows gently curve north-west to south east from one of the main plough headlands described in AP no. 7 towards the road that leads to Lowick. Two banks or baulks run in a similar trend amongst these furrows but the example at SP 9664 8032 may be cut by the plough furrows. As a group this ridge and furrow is overlain by the LIME AVENUE (AP no. 1), the unnamed avenue that converges with Drayton Road (AP no. 2), and a double banked feature of uncertain date (AP no. 32). It appears to be cut by several post medierval quarries (AP nos 33, 34, 35 & 36) and ditches (AP no. 38). Beyond these disturbances the lidar data suggests that ridge and furrow within the LIME AVENUE and around SE9678 8038 may survive as low earthworks but that most of these remains have been levelled.
