Full Description
{1} AP No.22. Traces of a previous formal garden layout are visible as soilmarks and parchmarks on historic air photos on the lawn in the East Parterre. These marks suggest a series of paths or beds around the statuary that still stand on the lawn. This appears to accord with the Register’s description that “In 1946 a parterre was laid east of the House by William Andrews Nesfield. This was abandoned in c. 1945 and returned to lawn.” and the illustrations in Country Life 1899. Some elements are visible as very low earthworks on the lidar data but most appear to have been levelled. (1-5)
