Full Description

{1} 860 medieval sherds and 29 post medieval sherds were found. About a third of the medieval pottery was early Potterspury ware. Another third was a coarse sandy fabric not prevously noted around Towcester but thought to be Oxford or Banbury ware. The same fabric but with shelly inclusions made up another 20%.
A significant amount of iron slag was also found suggesting that iron working was being carried out in the area.
It was clear that the concentration of medieval pottery increased southwards, peaking about two thirds of the way along the footpath. The majority of the iron slag was also collected at this point.
