Summary

A World War Two pillbox at the former Kingscliffe/ King's Cliffe Airfield. The mushroom shaped cantilevered pillbox is located in the south west -corner of the airfield next to the airfield's battle headquarters. It may have been built in 1941 and was constructed using brick and concrete. It features an internal gun rail. When the site was visited in 1997 the pillbox was said to have been in excellent and complete condition.

Full Description

{1} Regular F.C. construction 'mushroom' pillbox, although intact (the only intact F.C. construction pillbox on the airfield), with internal gun rail. Different pattern (thinner) roof lip. Brick and concrete construction. Condition: Excellent complete condition.

{3} The Defence of Britain Database notes a cantilvered pillbox at the former "RAF King's Cliffe" airfield, Kings Cliffe, Northamptonshire, TL 0278 9705. The pillbox is located in the south west of the former airfield next to the battle headquarters. The Defence of Britain record suggests that it was built between 1940 and 1941. It is a mushroom shaped cantilevered pillbox built of concrete and brick, with an internal gun rail extant at the time of a visit in 1997. When visited the pillbox was said by the recorder to be in "excellent complete condition".
