Monument record 1294/1/21 - Dual Defensive (LAA) Positions
Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A World War Two gun emplacement at the former Kingscliffe/ King's Cliffe Airfield, possibly built in 1941. It is situated in the south-west of the former airfield area near the perimeter fence facing south. It comprises two concrete pipes, that to the east has a metal gun mount in it. The pipes may possibly be related to the "Norcon" type of concrete pipe pillbox. The pipes both have a section of bar and rod tracking in front of them, supported by a picket post: this may have been used to hang a screen of camouflage.

{3} A World War Two gun emplacement at the former "RAF King's Cliffe" airfield noted on the Defence of Britain Database, Kings Cliffe, Northamptonshire TL 0272 9703. It is situated in the south-west corner of the former airfield area behind the perimeter fence facing south. The Defence of Britain record suggests that it may have been built between 1940-1941. It comprises two semi-sunken concrete pipes (said to be "sewage pipes"), that to the east has a green painted metal gun mount in it. The pipes both have a section of bar and rod tracking in front of them, supported by a picket post "for camouflage". The emplacement was said to be in fair condition when visited in 1997.
