Full Description

{1} Special types of sleeping shelter housing 18 or 33 men, heated and ventilated, were built at dispersal points at fighter stations for the use of pilots at readiness.

{2} Similar/previous type illustrated.

{3} A brick building with two external concrete support buttresses on each side. On top, a brick anti-aircraft position. Offset entrances at each end, facing different directions, with two sets of doors each (as an anti-gas measure). The doors are missing. Inside, positions for 18 bunks (now also missing), 9 on each wall in rows of 3. Long aluminium box ventilation pipe along the centre of the ceiling, fallen down at eastern end of shelter. Light fittings still visible. Condition: good. Marked as No. 81 on airfield record site plan IWA/793/51 building drawing No. 16142/41.
