Summary

In 1932 the Glasgow firm Messrs Stewart and Lloyds set up a major steel manufacturing plant in Corby. The first housing was constructed on a 280 acre site near the village in 1933-4. The first road to be completed was Bessemer Grove and subsequently Stephenson Way.

{1}{2} Overlooking the site of the former steelworks, some 2200 houses were built in the 1930s to take the large influx of workers at the expanding Stewarts and Lloyds plant, mainly from Glasgow.
