Full Description

{1} Prehistoric pottery and flints found during fieldwalking and limited trial trenching on the area of round barrows. Material ranged in date from Mesolithic to Bronze Age period. The surface scatter in itself would not betray buried monuments. 97 flints collected from fieldwalking; includes cores, blades, flakes and scrapers. At least two different industries are represented from the Mesolithic to Bronze Age with earlier Neolithic industries being notable by their absence.

{2} Site 10, West Cotton. The distribution of surface flint does not betray the presence of the buried monuments. Regular debitage and parent material are scattered throughout the field and the only tools occur at a distance to the south of the barrows. The broad range of material from the Mesolithic to the later Bronze Age lacks a clear focus though the presence of rarely found Mesolithic material may suggest that activity had been largely confined to the gravel terrace.
