Full Description

{1} Identified by South Northamptonshire Council as being a building of historic and/or architectural significance.

{2} Analysis and plan in report. The northern bay is built of rubble stonework with a slate roof. It is approximately square with an inglenook fireplace set against the front wall, which has a strongly cambered firebeam which bears scratched marks, possibly reading 4444 plus a pictogram. A forced access trhough the back of the stack leads to a 19th century brick-built single storey community hall. There are no visible early features or timer framing on the upper floor. The building was clearly originally an independent house.

Information given by a local architectural historian stated that this or a building in this approximate position contained a base-cruck, an observation made about 20 years ago. Internal inspection did not confirm this.

The discontinuity of the front walling suggests that the building was longer towards the south, but that this end was replaced by the 19th century hall.
