Full Description

{1} A large quarry pit with vertical sides and a flat base, at least 2.7m wide and 0.9m deep. The lower fill contained Midland purple ware, indicating the earliest date for the backfilling of the pit to be the mid 15th - early 17th century.
The test pit in the south of the site had a sequence of fills similar to the quarry pit, suggesting the post medieval quarry extended to the south.

{2} A quarry pit with steep sides, at least 4m wide and 0.9m deep. The base of the pit was not observed. No artefacts were recovered but previous trial trenching suggested a post medieval origin for the quarrying activity.
