Full Description
{1} The eastern corner of the Racecourse, called New Pasture, was used for public executions from the C18th. It was the scene of many gruesome executions attended by 'immense and increasing crowds' that became too large and unruly. A final (double) execution took place in 1818 after which the execution site was moved elsewhere.
