Full Description
{1} Purpose built in the late 1800s as a high quality suite of stabling, the buildings are centred around a stud unit capable of housing one or two stallions. They are constructed of cut course limestone and Collyweston roofs. Every loose box has a single ventilator high on the back wall and a ceiling of lath and plaster.
The northern wing was devoted to the stallion. The service room is on the left. The room has as ingle cast iron manger and rings in the wall for hay nets and restraining ropes. The floor is sloped and grooved for efficient draining and cleaning. The single stable door to the right of the service room leads to stallion living quarters and a loose box for visiting mares.
The unit in the east wing was probably originally open fronted but double doors, boarded ceiling and rendered extension wall were added to create a garage.
The east wing has a single loose box and a carriage house now used as a garage. The walls of the loose box are boarded to half height with high quality pine planking. In the far corner is a combined hay manger. It is in cast iron and is boxed in with hand crafted pine joinery.
The carriage house is equipped with bridle/ harness hanger and a saddle/ harness rack. An inspection pit has been let in to the floor, the pit being covered with stout pine planking.
