Full Description

Pre Coppice Earthwork Banks. 2=Archaeological Site Number. Enclosure

{1} Roughly circular enclosure, 80m in diameter. First reported in 1960 by a forestry officer and mapped in 1974. It has an exactly similar ditch and rampart construction as the Egg Rings [HER No: 5414/0/1, lying 500m to the south-east] and is likely to be contemporary with them, possibly of Iron Age date.

{4} Bordering part of the eastern boundary of Hartwell in Salcey Forest is an irregular enclosure, with a ditch and rampart still well preserved. This is probably of Iron-Age date, and suggests the forest is not primeval, as has been found with medieval woods in Northants.
