Full Description

{1} Passing reference to Ashton Wold "which was a convalescent home …….for wounded and sick men from the forces…". Not clear whether this refers to Ashton Wold Farm, Ashton Wold House or some other building. Ashton Wold House was, according to an oral report from D. Smith in Feb 1997, used for convalescence of soldiers during WWII.

{2} Refers to the Ashton Wold Manor House and to the use of the house as a Red Cross hospital as offered by M. Rothschild. The Red Cross moved out in 1945. "The top floor of the house, where all the hospital beds were installed, was removed by Mrs Lane's son…". The stables were used to billet the Ordnance Corps with officers in a house of one of the estate agents.
