Full Description

{1} Barby, an ex Ministry of Food Depot, became a Sub Depot of Weedon due to the great quantities of arms being returned to Weedon after WWII. The Depot was closed in 1959.

{2} 1940s air photos show the former depot and camp. The area of the present prison and its housing to the south was occupied by a regularly laid out system of roads running between an equally regular system of military style buildings. The area to the east contained a slightly less regular road system with pairs of smaller buildings set alongside the roads.

{3} The 1967 OS 1:10560 map shows a large Depot centered on SP51607030. This appears to have subsequently been demolished and a prison built on the site.

{4} The site of a removed WW2 Ordnance Depot has been identified at SP51527018.
