Monument record 2020/2/7 - Probable C17th Formal Garden Earthworks

18th century garden terraces located at Overstone Hall.

{1} Earthwork survey by A.E.Brown & Leicester University, Easter 1970. Immediately to the west of the house however all trace of the village has been removed, presumably in the interests of landscaping, and what earthworks there are seem to represent gardens.

{2} SP 806 656: Garden remains lie immediately west of Overstone Hall on the sides and bottom of a small re-entrant valley, on sand and clay between 85 metres and 99 metres above OD. The remains consist of a series of rectangular depressions associated with a set of low scarps which are probably the terraces of the 18th century gardens of the hall laid out after the removal of the village and abandoned before the 19th century emparking.
