Full Description

{1} Archaeological observation was undertaken during groundworks for two houses. A collection of 9 post holes were recovered. The post holes produced pottery dateable to the medieval period. The postholes were not substantial in size or depth and suggested only a light framework structure. A very vague rectangular alignment can be extrapolated but the postholes cannot definitely be attributed to the same structural composition. If an alignment were suggested then it would lie at an angle to the High Street and not perpendicular to it.

A circular pit roughly 0.78m in diameter and 0.49m deep with sheer cut sides, a flat bottom and slight undercutting at one side. It did not produce any finds. Cut into the natural to one side was a 1.2m long foundation of stones set with a clearly visible facing. They were not substantial enough to represent a major wall footing and it is not clear what the stonework relates to. A small piece of medieval pottery was recovered from between the stones.
