Full Description
{1} A sub-rectangular pit, the western half of which had been mostly removed by the west wall of one of the Roman barns. The surviving portion was 1.1m long (NE-SW), with a maximum width of 0.75m. The original length would have been approximately 1.9m. The feature was 0.2m deep. The surviving part contained a virtually intact but crushed Beaker, containing and surrounded by darkly stained silty clay. This appeared to contain burnt matter, but no carbonized material was recovered. The material from within the Beaker also contained no carbonized matter, although numerous unstruck burnt flint pieces were present. No human bone, cremated or otherwise, was present in the surviving part of the pit.
