Full Description

{1} Two sub-rectangular enclosures, virtually contiguous, and not necessarily contemporary. The larger enclosure consisted of two broad V-profiled ditches, typically 1.5m wide and 0.7m deep. One was partially cut away by a modern quarry. The enclosure was 20m wide (E-W) and at least 25m long. The smaller enclosure was situated immediately to the NW of the larger one, and consisted of three U-profiled ditches. The E side was open, and the N arm was longer than the S (19m and 14m respectively). The enclosure was 8m wide. The ditches were between 0.8m and 1m wide, with an average depth of 0.28m.

{3} Excavation undertaken by Oxford Archaeology in 1990 found the ditched boundaries of the earliest Roman field system to the west of the mill/villa building, dating to the mid 2nd century;
